This is a warning to all dog owners – please be careful walking your dogs in the New forest.

In the last few weeks it has been brought to our attention that several cases of Renal (Kidney) Failure have been presented to local veterinary practices.

The majority of these cases have been walked in and around Chilly Hill and Ogdens area near Fordingbridge (but not all).

Several of the dogs are presented with skin lesions and superficial wounds to either the paw or lower leg. Many of them then deteriorated and some developed swelling around the wound. Blood tests have revealed Renal Failure. This unfortunately been fatal in a number of cases.

All vets in the area are being made aware and are being extra vigilant, but we would advise you to take additional care in the New Forest and try not to walk your dogs in the above area until more information is available.
