Our Staff
We are currently in the process of updating all the information on our vets, nurses and administrative staff so that you can easily recognise who you are talking to at the practice, so please note that not everyone is here yet.
Our Vets
Darren Lucas MA, VetMB, MRCVSDarren qualified from Cambridge University in 1997. He then spent 6 months volunteering as the vet in charge of a primate rehabilitation centre in Cameroon, West Africa. This was followed by 2 years working at a small animal veterinary practice in Nottingham. Darren joined Cedar Vets in 2000 and became a director in 2008. He is interested in all aspects of small animal practice, but is particularly interested in emergency medicine and surgery.
Darren lives with his fiancée Vikki, in Ringwood. They have a cat called Pinot and a miniature dachshund called Lollipop. He particularly enjoys cooking (and eating!) and photography in his limited spare time.
Mark Packer MA VetMB MRCVSMark has been with Cedar Veterinary Group since October 2011. He graduated from Cambridge in 1994 and after a spell working in the Midlands returned to his Dorset roots, moving to Bournemouth in 2006.
He has owned black and white cats in the past, but currently lives without a pet.
He can often be seen running in the orange colours of the Littledown Harriers, entering local running races, He also plays golf, a sport more suitable to his advancing years!
Trevor Turner Dr MedVet, MRCVSTrevor took his veterinary qualification in Budapest, Hungary, one of Europe’s oldest and most respected veterinary colleges. This has the major advantage of now being able to call himself Dr Turner. His professional interests lie with dermatology and soft tissue surgery, but he enjoys all aspects of veterinary care. At home his main passions are his fiance and two dogs. He sometimes finds time to play poker in live games and to cook for friends and family.
Edward Roberts BVet, Med, MRVCSEd qualified in 2010 from the Royal Veterinary College in London and joined the practice that September. He is particularly keen on surgery and is working towards a certification in small animal surgery. He also has an interest in dentistry and aims to provide more advanced surgical techniques (e.g. tooth root canals and capping) after further training in this field.
Ed would love a Border Terrier, but unfortunately his current flat does not allow pets!
In his spare time he enjoys photography, cycling, snowboarding and being chief taster of his girlfriend Lucy’s baking.
Richard Murphy BSc, BVSc, MRCVS
Roisin BVet Med, MRCVSRoisin- (pronounced Rosheen) qualified from RVC in London. She has a special interest in small animal internal medicine and is currently studying for an additional qualification in this area. Outside work she stays true to her Irish roots and is a avid rugby fan.
Our Nursing Team
CarolineCaroline started her Veterinary Nurse training in 1998 and qualified in 2001.
She achieved her A1 Assessor Award 6 years ago and has been busy helping to train our student nurses since!
She currently works part-time and is a fantastic member of the Cedars team!
Her main veterinary interests are in inpatient care and ward duties.
She enjoys walking her dogs, going to the gym and taking care of her 2 gorgeous children!
She has 2 dogs called Dolly and Maisy, some guinea pigs, 3 cats and a Tortoise!
EmilyEmily initially started working at Cedar Vets in 2007 as referral secretary. She started working as a student nurse in May 2009. She completed her Veterinary Nursing Diploma in May 2012. Emily runs the Cedar Canines puppy classes and 1st stage training, where she enjoys socialising the puppies and teaching puppy health care to clients. She is currently completing Certificates in Canine Behaviour. Outside of Cedars, she loves to walk her border terrier, Oska. She also has 3 rescue cats Herbert, Norbert and Daizie-mai.
EmmaEmma joined the Cedars team for work experience when she finished school.
She then began her veterinary nurse training in 2007 at another veterinary surgery, before returning to join our team in 2009 to finish the qualification.
She qualified as a Registered Veterinary Nurse Summer 2010.
Her nursing interests are in inpatient care and physiotherapy.
Her other interests are camping, going to the gym and walking her dogs.
She has 3 Boxers and 2 Tortoises!
FreyaFreya started working at Cedars as a Saturday kennel assistant 2 years ago.
She then started her veterinary nurse training in March 2009 and has passed her NVQ level 2 examinations.
She has recently started the new nursing diploma qualification and hopes to qualify next Summer.
She loves to spend time nursing our inpatients and all ward duties.
In her spare time, she likes cooking, going to the gym and playing the guitar.
She has a tank of fish and a Collie Cross called Frank!
HelenHelen started working at Cedars 19 years ago as a weekend kennel assistant.
In 2006, after moving away to go to university and travel the world, she rejoined the practice to start her Veterinary Nursing training. She qualified in 2009.
Helen achieved the BSAVA Level 3 Veterinary Nursing Award for passing her final exams with the highest marks in the country!
Helen loves the variety of nursing but especially loves nursing the inpatients.
In her spare time, she breeds Cockatiels, likes going to the races and travelling.
She owns 6 Cockatiels, a tank full of Tropical Fish and a hand-reared sparrow!
SuzanneSuzanne started her nurse training with another practice in 1995.
In 2001 she qualified as a Veterinary Nurse.
Suzanne joined Cedars 4 years later as part of the orthopaedic referral team. She then moved onto 1st opinion nursing in 2006 and got promoted to one of the Senior Nurses a year later.
She qualified as a Suitable Qualified Person to dispense medications in 2009 and has recently become Head Nurse.
She loves all aspects of nursing!
Suzanne is a keen horse rider competing regularly.
She also enjoys being a mum to her gorgeous little girl Felicity!
SammieSammie initially started working with us on Sundays for 6 months until she joined our nursing team in February last year. She is currently working towards her 1st year nursing Diploma.
Sammie has previously completed her award in animal management at Kingston Maurward College. She also has experience of working with large birds of prey such as owls and hawks! Sammie’s interests out of work include looking after her own pet cats called Harry and Hermione. She has a little green budgie called Jack! She also enjoys going to the gym.
LauraLaura started working at Cedars in August 2011. She is currently working towards her 1st year nursing Diploma. Laura likes to spend time in wards and looking after inpatients. Laura’s previous experience includes working in a pet shop and 8 months working as a Animal care Assistant. Her other interests include writing poems and watching and playing football. Laura owns 4 rabbits, 1 cat, a hamster, 3 degu’s and lots of fish.
NikkiNikki began her veterinary journey during her school days, then began nursing in 1994! After taking a break to deliver her two boys, she gained her formal qualification quite late in January 2009 (with merit).
She has several pets including Tiana the Leonberger, Mr Anderson an English Pointer cross, Sebastian and Logan the Cats, Merlin the Welsh Cob, Neo + Gordelia the Guinea Pigs and two fish. She is also studying for the Graduate Diploma in Professional and Clinical nursing.
She has a special interest in surgery and diagnostic imaging and is a Senior Nurse here at Cedars.
AliceAlice joined Cedars in December 2012 and started her training at Lynwood School of Veterinary Nursing in January.
She has always loved animals and currently owns two Poodles, Izzy and Otis and a very naughty black and white cat called Oreo.
Alice has a interest in Canine psychology and behaviour.
In her spare time she enjoys photography and running with her dogs.
Our Reception Team
Joanne Tuck - Head ReceptionistJoanne joined Cedar Vets in 2005 and was made Head Receptionist in 2010 she is passionate about animals especially cats and has two of her own Mudu and Saundayi, who are Korats. Joanne is a member of Feline Advisory Bureau and Cats Protection. Joanne also loves a challenge, her most recent one was a Sky Dive to raise money for Cats Protection.
VikkiVikki has been working on reception since August 2004 and has recently gone part time. She us currently spending lots of her spare time organising her up and coming wedding to Darren whom she lives with in Ringwood.
They have a gorgeous black and white cat called Pinot Ras el Lanoute and a beautiful miniature dachshund named Lollipop Delilah.
Sarah
LibbyLibby joined the Cedar Team in May 2010.
Working on reception at all three branches. Libby loves animals and shares her home with Lol and Upendi the indoor rabbits and Tshaka the cat who was a stray from work. She also spends all her spare time with Sparky her big baby of a horse.
Libbys main interests include behaviour, psychology, art and design.
LynLyn joined Cedar Vets as a part time receptionist at the Ferndown branch in 2001. She is also founder and Chairman of the Ringwood based charity Friends of the Strays of Greece. She and her husband are proud owners of 4 Greek rescue dogs, Giovanni, Luna, Louisa and Robbie and a British Shorthaired silver spotted tabby named Chloe.
LinLin Arnold is the longest serving employee of 25yrs and has always worked from the Verwood Surgery on Reception, she has seen many changes over that time. Lin owns 2 cats Moto and Archie whom she adores. She would love more, but accommodation is limited.
KateI have been working at Cedars for 10 years on reception based at our Ringwood branch. I enjoy going out with my family on nice walks and outings. I love cats and currently have 3 of my own.
Administrators
CaroleI started at Cedar Vets in October 2000 as a receptionist but for many years have been the insurance administrator at the practice. I live in Verwood and have 5 cats , all rather elderly now. I also have a grown up daughter and son and 2 grandchildren.
